Are You Empowered and Treasured from Within?

Life, as it is practiced, is mostly a mirror, because life, as it is frequently lived, is mostly about attachment.  To be attached is to need a mirror–an outer reflection that validates something about oneself which can truly only be validated, empowered and treasured from within.  If I use you as a mirror it’s because I want you to be responsible for and make the decision for what I’m thinking or judging about myself. 

 

If I truly integrate myself into the awareness that, right or wrong, I am one with a Goodness that know no opposite, would the attachment to needing a mirror or reflection to validate me completely dissolve?

Find A Finger, Try Not to Point It

In this current 24/7 political news-cycle world of “he said, she said” it’s amazing that we haven’t all gone mad.  But it is a perfect snapshot of a dysfunctional family/relationship, and how to abdicate personal responsibility.

 

Republican or Democrat, Libertarian or Independent, how we live our personal lives will reflect in our public ones.  We don’t have to be featured on MSNBC or CNN, our even any of the morning shows to have established our true values and to take personal responsibility for our choices.

 

If I want a relationship, I have to take responsibility – not blame – for the ways in which I have used relationships to reflect my doubts, self-esteem that is too low, arrogance that is too high, desperation which automatically disempowers.  I could always blame the other guy for my current situations; I could continue to be upset about every jerk I’ve ever dated (it couldn’t have been me, could it?); or I could go all pundit clone and relentlessly play the irritating and irresponsible “he said/she said” card.

 

Here are the real facts.  If you want your future to be different than your past, you have to be willing to change the way you respond to situations and circumstances in the now.  If you’ve been dating – or marrying – jerks, you have to be willing to comprehend how your choices are a mirror of your own doubts, judgments, and self-esteem.  We all have the power to choose, and we all have the power to change.

 

Or we could just run for political office and practice our finger pointing.

Do you understand forgiveness?

Do you understand what forgiveness is?  It isn’t looking at yourself or anyone else and saying, “You’re a miserable excuse for a human being, and I forgive you anyway.”  Forgiveness is about letting go in peace.  It’s turning toward the part of you that probably did screw up and having compassion for your mistakes and for whomever it is you were when you made them.  It’s not about abdicating responsibility.  But at some point in time, you have to let go of the self judgment–the part of  you that has been operating as a relentless tyrant–you have to let it go.

Ultimately, forgiveness is about understanding that from a spiritual point of view, there’s nothing to forgive.

TODAY CAN BE GREATER THAN YESTERDAY….

Begin by picking up that wavering flashlight, that tiniest glimmer of potential hope, no matter how vague it appears.  Picking up the flashlight is picking up the potential.  It’s the choice that says, “Yes, I can.”  It’s choosing that, all emotional evidence to the contrary, today can be greater than yesterday.  Today, I can reach for a point of view that is not rooted in my chronological history.  Today, I can use my mind to begin to create the part of my life I have not yet experienced.  I am not limited to my genetics or my past.  Today, I can choose with love, because today I am not only enough.  I am more than enough.
